General Contractor
in Star, Idaho
A small town that tripled in size, with new subdivisions next to decades-old acreage homes.
Star went from a quiet town on Highway 44 to one of the fastest-growing places in Idaho in about ten years. Most of the new homes are in subdivisions built since 2015, so the roofs are young, but storm damage, builder punch-list leftovers, and finishing basements are already common requests. Around those subdivisions are the older acreage properties and farmhouses that were here first, many with roofs and windows from the 1970s through the 1990s.
R2F Construction serves all of Star, from the new neighborhoods off State Street and Star Road to the river-bottom properties and the farms toward Middleton.
What We Know About
Star Homes
Every city in the valley has its own housing stock, its own permit office, and its own weather quirks. Here is what matters in Star.
Neighborhoods we work in
- New subdivisions. The communities built since 2015 along State Street, Star Road, and Floating Feather. Young roofs, but wind and hail do not care how old a shingle is.
- Old Star & the river. The original town core near Main Street and the properties along the Boise River. Older homes and mature trees.
- Acreage & farms. The properties between Star and Middleton with shops, barns, and 1970s to 1990s farmhouses. Some are in Ada County, a few are in Canyon County.
Permits in Star
Star has its own building department at City Hall on State Street and requires permits for new construction, additions, and remodels inside city limits. Properties outside the city go through Ada County, or Canyon County on the western edge. We confirm the jurisdiction and take care of the permit.
Weather and exposure
Star sits in the open west end of Ada County, where wind coming down the valley has little to slow it. Wind damage is the most common roofing issue we see here. The river corridor adds tree debris and shade that keeps north-facing roofs wet longer in winter.
Storm repair on newer roofs
A 2018 roof should not need replacing, but a spring wind event can still peel back a section. We repair with matched materials, document it for insurance if that applies, and tell you honestly if the rest of the roof is fine.
Finishing basements in newer homes
Many Star homes were built with unfinished basements. Finishing one is the most cost-effective square footage you can add. We handle egress windows, moisture control, and the permit.
Farmhouse roofs and windows
The older acreage homes around Star often have original windows and a roof that has been patched more than replaced. We do the full tear-off and premium replacement those houses deserve.

Star Homeowner FAQ
Is Star too far out for you?
No. Star is about 25 minutes from Boise and firmly inside our service area. We schedule Star jobs alongside Eagle and Meridian work.
My new home has a problem the builder will not fix. Can you help?
Yes. We regularly fix flashing, ventilation, and window-installation shortcuts on homes a few years old. We will tell you whether it is a warranty item worth pushing the builder on or something to just get fixed.
Do you finish basements in Star?
Yes. Bedrooms, a bath, a family room, or a full suite. See our additions page for typical costs per square foot.
